From Downtown In H-Town

The Houston Rockets won again by beating the Denver Nuggets 119-114 for their 12th consecutive victory. The Rockets have the best record in the NBA at 46-13. They are half a game better than the Golden State Warriors.

The Rockets led throughout the game because they made 15 three-pointers out of 35 attempts.

The NBA is in the era of the three-point shot, but no team takes it to the extreme like the Rockets. The Rockets lead the NBA in three-point attempts with 2,514, which is almost 400 more than the next closest team the Brooklyn Nets. With such a significant lead, the Rockets will likely finish the season with the most three-point attempts for the fourth time in five seasons.

General manager Daryl Morey and superstar James Harden have helped the Rockets win at least 50 games three of the last four seasons and appear in the Western Conference Finals in 2015. 2018 is entering into historical significance for the Rockets.

The formula has been so successful that the Houston Cougars also took part in it for one day.

The Cougars blew out East Carolina 109-58, which was highlighted by a startling 62-13 lead at halftime.

The Cougars made 18 three-pointers out of 27 attempts.

They were produced by just four players. Corey Davis Jr. made four threes on 11 attempts. Armoni Brooks made seven three-pointers out of nine. Rob Gray and Gabe Grant were both perfect. Gray went 3-3, and Grant went 4-4.

The Cougars are in third place in the American Athletic Conference with a 22-6 mark and a 12-4 conference record. The Cougars are projected to be a six-seed in the NCAA Tournament according to Scott Gleeson of USA Today and a seventh seed according to Joe Lunardi of ESPN.

Houston has quality wins over Arkansas, Providence, Temple, Wichita State and Cincinnati.
